Product Review – #BACKSUPPORT007

I got this back support in order force myself into sitting the right way at the computer. In addition to being a little…ahem…heavy in the front, bad habits and the knowledge that I could seriously injuring my spine in the long haul told me it was time to do something about it.

I originally considered buying it as a personal reminder to lift with my back straight while lifting things, but after reading some other reviews, was reminded about the need to keep my back and the natural curvature of my spine straight, period. In the short amount of time I’ve been using it, I have to say it’s one of the smartest, if boring, things I’ve got used to this year. By boring, I mean this usually isn’t one of those things people buy after saying, “you know what would be great?” There’s usually a specific reason for buying it, and what could be better than saving your spine from long-term damage? I’m embarrassed I waited so long.  This covers both of those requirements. The quality of this back brace looks very sturdy and the stitching on it “tells” me it may last me a while, despite the fact that I’ll be wearing it constantly. If it doesn’t, I’ll be back and update the review. The longevity of a product that takes abuse, such as the constant stretching this brace will go through, does have to be taken into consideration. And if you have some knowledge about this, I’m sure others would appreciate the feedback; I know I will. The photo on the product page shows the back part of the brace that lays directly on the lumbar region of the back to be shiny. The product I have isn’t shiny and the color is actually uniform all around. I was also worried about sweating under the thing. After wearing it over a shirt for 5-6 hours at a time in a 75 degree room, it didn’t make me sweat. Despite the amount of material around your waist, it’s surprisingly breathable. By “fits most”, I assume Mueller is trying to avoid offending anyone. So, at the risk of taking heat, I’ll say the back brace probably accommodates anyone up to around the 230 range before having to wonder if you might be “testing” the stitches. Bob the mechanic’s review is what prompted me to order it and like I said, I don’t regret the purchase as it ended up being something that I just recently found out I needed. Here’s to our backs.
