This webcam cover from #coziii is a very simple product that does its job quite well – how could it not? adhere easily to the aluminum frame of my iMac and perfectly block out the built in camera. The square shape of the cover blends well with the frame, and the color is pretty close to the aluminum. It’s not an exact match, but close enough to not be distracting during daily use.
One thing to keep in mind is that, at least on iMacs, the built-in camera is used as an ambient light sensor. This means that when you cover the camera, your Mac is no longer able to automatically adjust the screen brightness based on the brightness of light around you. Your mileage may vary on other computers with ambient light sensors, and won’t affect those without.
CONSTRUCTION: The cover seems quite well made and should hold up to some removing and reapplication. It is incredibly thin and I feel like I might peel up the colored top if I don’t make sure to get my nail completely under the cover when removing it. I will be interested to see how it holds up over time.
DESIGN: Very simple. Very effective. It is a round-cornered square that adhere easily to most computer surfaces.
INSTALLATION: Easy as can be. Peel it off its paper and stick it on your computer’s built-in camera. Done and done.
USE: Properly blocks all light from entering the camera, displaying a deep black instead of a live video.
